The GeneLink breeders’ group offers the discerning buyer the opportunity to select the very best animals, semen or embryos from four of South Africa’s premier Brangus studs. Situated in the Free State province of South Africa, the GeneLink breeders’ group represents five successful Brangus studs. GeneLink offers the buyer the combined experience of nearly three decades of breeding and improving the Brangus breed in South Africa. The five studs – Aldupré, Sleewijk, Bersunel, Ceylonia and Smith Brangus – continue to operate individually and each retains its unique individual characteristics. However, marketing the genetics under the GeneLink banner offers the prospective buyer a wider variety and the added confidence of a quality product.

Taking the bull by the horns

It was the Brangus that brought the four together. Albertus du Preez (Aldupré), Helgard Truter (Sleewijk), Bennie van Niekerk (Bersunel) , Bennie van Rensburg (Ceylonia) and Kosie Smith (Smith Brangus) met through their involvement with the Brangus Cattle Breeders’ Society of South Africa. It soon became apparent that they share a passion for the breed and a vision of how to develop the Brangus into one of the world’s foremost cattle breeds. This led to the creation of GeneLink. The GeneLink breeders’ group prides itself on its scientific approach to breeding.

Through GeneLink the four studs offer the buyer the opportunity to attend the annual GeneLink auction where all five studs will be represented. The advantage to the buyer is access to a deeper genetic pool and improved genetic material. Buy hitching their wagons, the four studs are able to put only top animals on the market because selection can be based on quality rather than quantity. In this way quality can by ensured, the buyer is spoiled for choice with a higher volume and wider variety of animals available.
