Bersunel Brangus

Bennie van Niekerk loved cattle since he was a young boy growing up on a farm in northern KwaZulu-Natal. His opportunity to realise his dream came when he bought the farm Mandalay in the Winburg district in the Free State. The Bersunel Brangus stud was established in 2003 after Bennie did some investigation into a red cattle breed with qualities that include a big gene pool, high fertility, adaptability, pollard, low birth-weight, and high quality meat.

The red Brangus was the obvious choice. Bennie bought of the best bloodline genetics available – the first stud bull was acquired at the national Brangus auction for a record price of R80 000 in 2005. This sent a clear message to fellow breeders that Bersunel Brangus meant business. The aim of the stud is to invest in genetics in order to produce high quality beef cattle. Since its establishment Bersunel Brangus has produced several champion red cows across different categories.
